In November, Emirates Airlines became the first major airline to offer closed captions on inflight entertainment. All seats in all classes of the airline are equipped with their iCE (Information Communication Entertainment) system, which offers over 600 channels and other snazzy features, such as viewing the aircraft’s external cameras, and sending SMS or email from your seat. Passengers now have the option to turn on closed captions when viewing movies or television programs, and the captions are offered in up to 12 languages. Panasonic Avionics‘ eX2 technology is what is driving the closed captions.
I hope we’ll be seeing this in more airlines soon.

Emirates Airlines rock! Why can’t our airlines do the same?!
This is good progress, but I am totally angered that none of the American airlines have done so yet. Emirates only flys to Toronto, New York, and Houston for it’s U.S. destinations….
If anything, there should have been captioning on airlines YEARS ago. There was even Japanese and Chinese captioning on flights I took to Asia years ago….
I recently flew Emirates Airlines and to my dismay, CC was only available before take-off giving us the mandatory guidelines on TV. After take-off, I check channels to see if there were any CC, but none.
I just thought I let you know.
Thanks,
Fadi
I want to fly with Emirates A380
closed captioning is fully functional on emirates.
I agree with you SONNY JAMES,
Why can’t our airlines do the same?
Emirates rock the world, and in my point of view EMIRATES is one of the best Air Line of the World.that type of facilities make her unique.
I KNOW!!! I was so damn shocked on the way home from Dubai back in March to discover that “Australia” had subtitles!!!! You couuld have knocked me over with a feather!!
